There are more than 7,500 Indonesians studying in the United States. This number is expected to grow as more specialists in various disciplines will be needed to support the growing Indonesian economy. The government of Indonesia has set up an education endowment of about 1 billion dollars to support Indonesians pursuing degree outside of the country. The program, LPDP, gives full scholarship for students going to about 55 American universities. Area of interests, among others are engineering, science, agriculture, law, economics, finance, and medicine. There is a greater focus on subjects related to the service industries. Our mentorship program works with candidates on preparing the successful applications for LPDP candidates.

Most of the participants in our Mentorship Program are graduate candidates applying for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs. This reflects the needs of Indonesian society for Master’s and Doctorate graduates in the areas of science and engineering.

Graduate programs offer Master’s degrees (usually 2 years), Doctoral degrees (usually 5 years or more), professional degrees (1 or 2 years) and some professional certificates (usually 1 year). You can pursue graduate degree in virtually anything – engineering, computer science, design, psychology, environmental studies, public policy.

The United States has the highest number of top graduate schools in the world in terms of quality of teaching; infrastructure – labs, libraries and research centers; as well as original publications and number of patents and innovations.

Similar to undergraduate programs, you will have many choices in terms of where and what exactly to study.  You will need to research your options well.

In essence, the applications for graduate and undergraduate schools are similar.  You need to show you are qualified and motivated. In many ways, the application process for the graduate school is less complicated and more straightforward than applying for college. But you need to emphasize your focus and statement of purpose.

Mentorship program workshops have discussions, exercises, and assignments on the components of graduate school applications.  We have a number of Indonesian graduates serving as mentors in the program. They are valuable sources of practical advice and insight for all participants.
